A Masque was originally a pageant type affair for Kings and Queens at court. An extravagant display of singing, dancing, costumes and spectacle and so is quite a fitting name for this webring celebrating the costumes of such an extraordinarily costumed show. Also women were allowed to perform in these, unlike on the stage (in England anyway, elsewhere rules were different).

Who is the ring for exactly? Well:
a)people who have good pictures specifically of the costumes;
b) people who have made costumes and put up a site about it, images or text is fine,
c) people who have research into the background, ie the period 1876-1883 costumes (covers the cuirass period and 2nd bustle, which are both in the show) and include Phantom as an example;
d) people who have done make up from the show;
e) people who have a detailed page on the make up
f) all of the above *OR*
g) any of the above;)
